How does the gas of a coke/beer work? Does it count as lost liquid?

The CO2 is mixed into the water that goes into the soda recipe and kept stable by the pressure inside the can. I don’t think it counts as lost liquid though, because the CO2 and water are combined as a mixture which (if I remember my high school chem) means that they don’t form a new compound and stay as separate elements.
