Do our brains have a short version of word definitions in our head or do we just go along with the context of the conversation and pick out key words?

In order to work efficiently, our brains cut out little bits of info and string together a basic understanding from context clues. When reading, your brain typically will read only part of a word before figuring out what it is and moving on. This is what makes dyslexia so debilitating, the brain mixes things up and it forces the person to actively think about every single syllable they hear or every letter they read to make sense of something.
