I’ve always wondered how the military ‘draws down’ their forces at an overseas base. Eventually the number of people left gets smaller and smaller. The force is so small towards the end that their safety might be in jeopardy right?

In the worst case scenario they use planes, or boats. The last people to leave are combat troops who protected The shrinking perimeter while everyone left.
But a better plan is to leave while the enemy are sleeping or engaged elsewhere, and just leave them an empty base.
