How does using cannabis affect weight loss (ignoring munchies)?

I am not a doctor.   And have no medical knowledge of this whatsoever.   
But I know whenever I smoke regularly for a while ( think daily for like a month or more) my metabolism goes into overdrive, even if I don’t give in to the munchies.

We’ll have a much better idea once the study currently underway at UCSD looking at the metabolic effects of cannabis consumption finishes up and reports results.

I’m not aware of any good-quality studies looking at the subject that have been published to date- in large part because cannabis’s status as a schedule I drug in the US generally precludes most serious research.

Science says there is no change in weight loss.

There is one theoretical exception: certain inflammatory diseases. Inflammation leads to water retention. Water retention leads to weight gain.

Another way it promotes weight loss: if food isn’t available, it makes hunger less painful. I have known plenty of poor people to use cannabis as an appetite suppressant when they ran out of money for food.
