How exactly does Adrenaline work?

I know Adrenaline is released into the blood from the adrenal glands. However it is still unclear to me how that gives us the ability to do spectacular things? Does it supercharge our muscles in someway or does it do something else? How does it work?

Adrenaline is a message, not a superdrug. It says to your body “WE’RE IN TROUBLE! It’s time to stop relaxing, digesting food, or thinking about sex, and start running, fighting, or reacting!”

Every part of your body is programmed to react to that message in the ways that /u/faloi explained.
