been applying for a few jobs lately. everyone always says to watch your digital footprint cause it might hinder job opportunities. how do they check this? can they like, plug your email into something and see all the accounts you’ve made on it? can they somehow see your other unrelated email accounts if you happen to use them alongside your work email in the same app? or is it just like, just really surface level stuff where they look up your name and see if any accounts that share that name come up. idk. i don’t have much to worry about other than some kind of embarrassing roleplay/stan accounts that are connected to a completely different email (which to be fair would also be pretty emotionally crushing to have my employer see lol) but i’m still curious about how it works

You would know if your digital footprint is something of a concern. Most importantly is your social media. Nobody wants to hire someone and then find out they went to a Halloween party in blackface.
Unless it’s big time security clearance, nobody is going to find out how much is in your checking account, and what someone is paying in child support, etc.
