How has Twitter limiting the number of tweets we can read caused it to DDoS itself?

I saw someone say that the new Twitter update was causing it to essentially DDoS itself. Is this true? I have a very basic understanding of what DDoS is but I don’t understand how the two are connected. Thanks in advance.

Further question – why wasn’t this fixed within a few hours?

You get the surge of traffic, servers struggling and a lot of complaints. Surely even the few engineers not yet fired figure it out. Isn’t it then easy to write a few lines of code to introduce the standard solution to this problem?

The twitter servers kept asking the tweet processing servers for more tweets since they were not updated to the new limits. So anyone that wanted to view one without an account, or was past the limit, twitter was trying to load in new tweets for every single one but kept getting denied. Too many requests = DDOS.
