You know how people say our sense of smell is the most strongly associated with memory? Well really all of our senses are strongly related to memory recall. How else would we be able to remember something like a favorite meal except by the combination of scent, taste, sight, and maybe even hearing and touch?

So while I’m not sure your experience of fevers bringing back bad memories is universal (it doesn’t happen to me), it’s possible that the feeling of a hot flushed face is bringing back other times where you’ve had that feeling of a hot flushed face. Maybe during very embarrassing, upsetting, or angry moments?

A fever and sickness in general tends to be fatiguing and mess with cognition. Brushing aside invading thoughts rather than fully recalling them is something our brains usually take care of pretty automatically, but being able to concentrate on right now rather than distraction is something that can become fatigued.
