I see the figure thrown around a lot but haven’t really seen an explanation for it. I’m not saying it isn’t true or anything I just want to know how you could put a price on something so nebulous and complex.

My guess from the figure is that it simply includes market value of discounted meals per day multiplied by the number of under-nourished people.
Certainly solving world hunger would be more expensive than low double digit billions.
The logistics of distributing the food would exceed 11B alone. Fuel, pilots, drivers, maintenance crews, waste cost on perishable items … armed protection from warlords, looters and thieves …
