How is colored glass made?

Question

I understand (roughly) that to make glass you melt sand, etc. But how do they make glass with different colors? Like green beer bottles for example.

ELI5: You add different compounds to the melted glass which imparts a color to the resulting glass. Green glass gets its color from iron I believe, brown from iron-sulphur etc.
