How is contact lens solution able to disinfect but is gentle enough to not be harmful to the eyes?

It has to do with how long the solution in contact with a surface, remember that it has 8 or so hours to disinfect lenses, so it can do it slowly, but the little bit that gets in your eyes only stays for a short time.

In addition to it not being very strong, once in your eyes it gets diluted fairly quickly by your own tears.

There’s different kinds of solutions too. The one I use to clean my contacts absolutely WILL be painful to get in your eye(I know). I believe it’s hydrogen peroxide at a low percentage, but I would have to look at the bottle to be sure. It comes with its own special case that has a disk in it that reacts with the harmful chemical and neutralizes it. The instructions state that you have to let it sit for a minimum amount of time before putting it in your eyes. I then rinse them with a different solution before putting them in my eyes.
