It largely is not possible. The lowest-end industry standards for HDR (e.g DisplayHDR 400) exists solely so that manufacturers can sell more products as “HDR”, even though the dynamic range they offer is basically the same as good SDR displays.
Dual-layered LCD panels are another way, though usually that’s reserved for mastering monitors (5 digit cost per unit). Pretty self-explanatory how they work I’d imagine.
