How is it possible to make a very clear image from combining a lot of photos of an object like the moon?

there are two main ways:
1) take 1000 photos of the entire object; stack them on top of one another, then pick the photo that has the best image of any particular spot and use that.
2) take 1 really detailed picture of spot1 then spot 2 and spot 3……..spotXXXXX then arrange them like putting a puzzle together
