How is it that some animals like salamanders and lizards are able to regrow lost limbs, while humans are not able to do the same thing?

Evolution made it so.

‘Releasing’ the tail is a defence mechanism. When they’re caught, they simply detach the tail and keep running. It’s really very effective. Humans lived differently, and were never caught the same way a lizard is. So we never evolved to have that specific defense mechanism. Lizards can’t simply regrow any limb though, far as I know it’s only the tail.
