You may only see a therapist for 1 hour (or X times per week), but what you discussed and are doing between those sessions is also part of your therapy. Depending on the therapeutic approach, it could include things like doing some sort of homework like writing things, using breathing techniques, acting a certain way in certain situations, talking to yourself/other people in certain way and thinking about your behavior, emotions and actions, including the discussions you had with the therapist
