Also worth noting that the type C connector has more contacts, allowing up two four pairs of superspeed data wires with USB 3.2 gen[1/2]x2 operation. (Up from 2 pairs and the usb2.0 pair on the type A/B connectors)
USB-C just defines the shape of the connector not the tech behind it. So you can have USB2 Type-C cable or USB3 Type-A cable, In this case type A cable will be faster.
