how smooth, clean glass appears to have so much friction?

Glass objects when they come out a hot dishwasher cycle – for instance – when they’re at their smoothest and cleanest tend to have surprising amounts of fiction in the hand. Almost as much as coarse rubber. Why is this?

Glass has very high friction. Different materials have different coefficients of friction, and glass is quite high.

Friction doesn’t come from dirtiness, and while a rough surface *can* increase friction, it can also decrease it. Some materials have stronger stickiness than others, and glass’ is pretty high.
