how smooth, clean glass appears to have so much friction?

Glass objects when they come out a hot dishwasher cycle – for instance – when they’re at their smoothest and cleanest tend to have surprising amounts of fiction in the hand. Almost as much as coarse rubber. Why is this?

The smooth surface means there’s more surface contact on your hand, the more surface contact, the higher the friction…

So, I’d say it’s because the glass is so clean and smooth that you’re able to get a better grip than a dirty/dusty glass
