They scream scam, and will likely involve some sort of investment or crypto etc. How do they actually work ?

That depends on the game. Some are straight up scams. Others just work by showing you more adveristing than you are being paid out. And then there are the games were that sell your data and just give you a tiny portion of that money back.
Mostly it’s heavy rewarded ads. You have to see a LOT of ads to make any money. Way more then people realise
