How was the first computer programmed? With what? How does it know 1 means yes and 0 means no?

1 and 0 are simply the values we assign to any binary system. To the computer the 1s and 0s are actually a change between power or no power, or x voltage and y voltage. We use 1s and 0s to represent these for our understanding but what they really are are just states of a transistor.
