how/why can humidity be low in an area that’s right next to an ocean?

If the land is very warm relative to the ocean, air that is near saturation over the ocean will get warmed as it blows onto land and the relative humidity will drop. Additionally, dry zones are found in regions where there is sinking air. These two phenomena are a big part of what drives the Namib and Atacama deserts.
