How will personalisation work when YouTube introduces server-side ads? Will we all see the same ad on one video?

The video you get from YouTube isn’t a single large file. It’s a bunch of smaller ones (few seconds each) that are at your end put together.
That’s why they can dynamically change the resolution in the middle of the video.
They will just insert the ads into the video in the same way. Your browser has no idea which short clips are what and it will just put them together as a single video.
So personalization can work just fine as they can insert personalized ads on their side as well.
