The what is easy – it is a measure of how much your heart rate decreases in the 2 minutes post-exercise. A greater decrease is better.

As to why it is important – the heart is designed to be able to change speed very quickly. We can go from being at rest to going full blast in seconds. The heart should _also_ go back to rest (almost) as quickly, as that is more efficent for the body.

The longer it takes for your hear to go back to rest, the worse cardiovascular shape you are in.
