hydronephrosis causes and and treatment.

I was just told my unborn child may have hydronephrosis (kidney not draining into the bladder properly). Can someone break this down for me a bit? What causes that to happen and what are the treatment options for it?

I have researched a bit on this, but am struggling to wrap my head around it.

Make sure when you research it that you look at “fetal hydronephrosis” rather than an other type.

Either the kidney not draining properly because of an obstruction like a kink in the ureter the tube that transfers urine from the kidney to the bladder OR urine drains fine but also refluxes back up into the kidney, normally a one way tube that is working both ways.

This is a condition that could be concerning or might not be very concerning depending on the severity. They only want to do something about it while you are pregnant if it is severe. If it is not severe they will wait until the baby is born. In some cases infants need surgery or treatment to prevent a urinary tract infection (UTI). In other cases it’s not really a problem or the infant grows out of it. Again whether it needs treatment or not depends on severity.

What has your doctor said about severity and what do they think had caused it?
