Ice Hockey/concert stadiums

I went to a concert at a venue that also hosts Ice Hockey games. My sister in law asked a question I have no answer to. How is the floor (which functioned basically as a mosh pit) transform into an ice rink? I know that there are mats taken up, but how is water/ice installed? How is it then brought to ice temperature? How long does it take?

During the hockey season, the ice will stay more or less permanently. They will put boards on to cover up the ice for other events.

The ice has a cooling system underneath it that will keep it below freezing. A layer of insulated temporary flooring is installed on top. The boards can easily be removed.

Check out this video of them doing the transformation from Basketball to Hockey at Madison Square Garden. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoRRwQne5O0
