If 100°C is equal to 212°F then why is 1°C not equal to (212/100) or 2.12°F but instead equal to 33.8°F?

Celsius degrees are larger than Fahrenheit degrees. From freezing to boiling water takes 100 C degrees, but 180 F degrees. That’s why the conversion requires multiplying by 5/9 or 9/5. AND the scales don’t have the same “starting point”. 0 C is 32 F. Hence the + or – of 32 degrees in the conversion formula.
