If alcohol is so effective at killing bacteria/viruses, why isn’t it used more often in medication?

Because alcohol kills you at *much, much, much* lower concentrations than what is needed to kill bacteria and virus. If your blood suddenly consists of 70% alcohol, yeah bacteria in your blood will die, but so will you.
