If bedrock is the hard solid rock beneath the surface, how can trees grow on bedrock?

I’m studying ecology right now, and I’m a bit confused by this.

Trees don’t actually need that much from the soil, they can get most of what they need from the air. As long as there are a few cracks / ridges the roots can grab onto, they will be able to grow. Maybe some moss will grow to hold nutrients or there will be a big enough crack where it will collect.
