I’ve never heard of them lasting longer in a sealed container, actually.
They’ll last longer when they’re cold and dry. The holes help to keep moisturize out (or more freely able to escape), and a little more airflow to prevent mold. When taken out of a cooler, condensation is likely to form, and that’s when it’s good to have those holes, so the moisture isn’t trapped inside. Being wet makes them go bad faster.
Now, things like preserves or frozen berries may last longer in a sealed container, but fresh berries are best in containers that expose them to fresh, cool air for the reasons above.
