If cracking knuckles and other joints releases fluid, where does the fluid go?

It’s not a release of fluid. More like a release of air. But the air isn’t really going anywhere either. You’re sort of just breaking up bigger bubbles into smaller ones. After a little while, the smaller bubbles coalesce into bigger ones again, which is why you can crack your knuckles again, say, an hour later.
