If drugs like MDMA use up most of our available serotonin, why can’t we just supplement it like vitamins etc?

There is a complex series of receptors and synaptic exchanges, in addition to a single chemical such as serotonin, that constantly adjusts and readjusts to a baseline the body deems “normal.” Upping or replacing a single signal in this chain of events may not have the desired outcome. source: am pharmacist
