If fabric like linen and wool risk shrinkage, why not just shrink them ahead before making the clothes?

Manufacturers would need more yardage per garment if they preshrunk the fabric. If I’m sewing with linen I buy 10% more than I need and preshrunk before I cut the pattern pieces.

Linen shrinks in the wash but it also can “grow” when worn. Depending how much they shrank, you might be able to rescue them. Hang them up (gravity is your friend) in the bathroom when you’re having a shower so they get a bit of steam.

Wool is another story entirely as others have said.
