If I do (for example) 10 squats 5 times over the space of the day, is that just as good as going 50 squats once a day? Why or why not?

Relative intensity matters.

You can drink 1, 10oz juice box, 5 times over a day and probably feel fine.

Crush 50oz of juice boxes in one sitting and maybe you feel sick, your stomach isn’t adapted to holding 50z of juice and your body isn’t adapted to that much sugar at once.

“Sprint” only 10 yards, 5 times throughout the day and maybe you can handle it.

“Sprint” 50 yards once and you’re way more tuckered out.

Now, put your friend on a Radio Flyer and “sprint” 10 yards while dragging them, 5 times a day.

Then try to “sprint” 50 yards while dragging them. You will probably be walking by 20 yards.
