In the myth of Pandora, she opens the jar filled with evils given to her by the Greek gods. Hesiod says only hope remained inside when the jar was closed. Since mankind didn’t know of these evils before she opened the jar, doesn’t that mean that there’s no hope?
I believe it was more something of a metaphor that even against the world’s evils we should never let go of hope. Of course this one, just as many myths can have it’s own interpretation depending on the person.
