if plants need to absorb sunlight in order to do photosynthesis, why aren’t they black?

Because the chemical they use for absorbing light is green.

They haven’t evolved a black chemical for it.

If the rest of the plant was black then it would absorb the light and it wouldn’t reach the light absorbing chemicals.
