Cake tastes great, doesn’t mean all that fat and sugar is good for your liver and teeth. Something can be bad for the long-term but you don’t see the effects right away when you only do it here or there. But you are packing in wax that is supposed to naturally work its way *out* of the ear canal, not *in*. And you do risk damaging your ear if you go too deep.

The problem with them is that you can jam them in too far. [Here](https://dt7v1i9vyp3mf.cloudfront.net/styles/news_large/s3/imagelibrary/E/Ear_01-dm9dxH__zofEw8jDcoCZFQd38PxQ90dR.jpg) is a diagram of your ear. See how it’s pretty much a straight shot from the opening of your ear to the tympanic membrane (ear drum)? Well, that means you can poke that bad boy. It’s so delicate it responds to vibrations in the air (that’s how you hear), so imagine how it would react to being whacked with a q-tip. Not good.

Q-tips stimulate your vagus nerve, which feels good. If you use them to aggressively, or heaven forbid, bump into something when one is in your ear, it can damage the structures in your inner ear. This can include perforation of the eardrum. You don’t want an eardrum perforation, they suck, speaking from experience.
