If there is no sound in space does that mean stars are silent?

I did Google this a bit and understand that sounds needs a medium to travel.

So if we could hypothetically stand in the surface of the sun would we hear nothing?

If two asteroids collided would it be completely silent?

Correct. There’s nothing for you to hear if you’re in a vacuum, in the same way that you can’t have waves in a pool with no water in it.
