Fans do heat the air, but they also make you feel cooler.

The reason for this is that you are typically quite a bit warmer than the air around you, and if it _is_ hot, you are probably sweating.

If you are warmer than the air around you, your body heats up the air near it. This means your body feels the small layer of warm air next to your skin. Fans blow away this small layer, letting your skin feel the colder air.

If you are sweating, evaporating sweat removes a lot of heat. But just like you have a small layer of warm air, evaporating sweat raises the local humidity so it can’t evaporate as well. Fans also blow this away, increasing evaporation rate and evaporative cooling.
