If you can pull money out of almost any ATM why can you not deposit money into almost any ATM?

ATMs can get broken into. If you deposit but it gets stolen afterwards and the bank doesn’t get it, are you okay with losing that deposit? Cause the bank sure as heck isn’t gonna arrive a deposit they don’t get the money for
