If you need plenty of rest to recover from a sickness, why does your body sometimes intermittently wake you up throughout the night?

It’s 2:24am right now and I’m currently wide awake while trying to recover from a chest cold. Why does my body do this? Does it not want to get better?!?!

Your body is sick, meaning it’s not functioning properly. This could mean that you have trouble staying asleep due to discomfort or coughing/sneezing. Just because you need rest, doesn’t mean your body is able to provide it.

Also, sleep is good but even if you have trouble sleeping, you are still resting if you are lying down, not engaging in much activity and taking care of yourself. Don’t obsess over lost sleep, you can’t always control that. You can control resting, which you are doing, so good on you.
