Importance of Tyre pressure

Hey I want to know the significance of Tyre pressure. I have studied somewhere when Tyre has low pressure it comes under compression as contact area is greater. I am not able to understand this.

There are lots of things happening at once when the tyre pressure is too low making it wear out faster and eventually fail. You are right that the contact patch increases, both in width and length. This is because the tyre is allowed to deform more when the pressure is lower. But when the tyre deforms it heats up. And this heat can cause the rubber to decompose, eventually failing. But even if you drive slow enough the wider tyre patch also casues problems in that the sidewall of the tyre can form part of the contact patch. The sidewalls do not normally have the thick rubber treads that is designed for wear and will therefore wear down very fast. There are also some other smaller issues which combine to make the situation even worse.
