In a motorcycle, why is the neutral position typically above the first gear and below the second?

ALWAYS have bike in first whilst stopped. Why? If the idiot behind you accidentally let’s off the brake or something happens and you need to get out of there, having it already in gear saves you the extra second or two that could mean the difference between accident and no accident
