In cartoons, and 2D animation in general, why do animators keep the same outfit for every characters throughout the show’s lifespan?

It’s just easier and keeps animation budget down because if one person changes clothes everyone else has too, it can also be because the clothes are too iconic to the shows image. I actually think they did a joke about this in one of the phineas and ferb movies

Part of the reason is so they can reuse animation. Instead of having to drawn entirely new cels of animations, ones from a previous episode can be used. This can be important when strict deadlines or last minute story edits don’t give the animators enough time to drawn everything from scratch.
