In the US, why is ‘E’ skipped in grading is schools? Students can get A, B, C,D or F but not E, why?

And they wonder why the American education system is so off. They can’t even have a standardized scoring system. I was an A student until we moved and my A’s became B’s, because in the new place A= 100-96, B=95-91, C=90-86, D=85-81. any thing lower was NP= not passing. My parents grounded me over and over for getting B’s, until the school sent them a letter explaining their scoring system.
