In the US, why is ‘E’ skipped in grading is schools? Students can get A, B, C,D or F but not E, why?

Alright this probably doesn’t belong here so feel free to downvote me in case.
So when I was in high school, in Italy, grades were given on a scale from 2-10 (ten being the best).
on quarter reports, our grades were written in full words, not number. And since 6 is written SEI, they were probably afraid that someone could manually change it into 7 (which is written SETTE), so they wrote 6 in latin rather than italian.
6, in latin, is written SEX.
