I’ve also read that mouth breathing over time, especially during development can alter the physical appearance and structure of your face and neck.

Most answers here are about regular breathing, but I’ll add that when running breathing through your nose increases the amount of oxygen you get.

Dentist here. Mouth breathing as a kid can make the shape of the roof of your mouth change, which can alao change the shape of your face from what it would have been. It also makes it more likely for you to get cavities. If you feel like you *have to* breathe through your mouth, it could mean that you have nose and throat problems that need to be fixed, and can also mean it’s hard for you to breathe when you sleep. That would be bad.

Yes, check out the book Breathe by James Nestor. It’s not just bad, it changes the physiology of your face and can lead to a number of issues.
