is there any difference between drinking lightly flavored but unsweetened sparkling water, vs. plain non-carbonated water?

It’s just as healthy and hydrating as plain water. Carbon dioxide adds a tiny bit of acidity, as others have said, but my doctor said I’d have to drink an ungodly dangerous amount of sparkling water for it to affect my teeth, and I’d be more likely to get sick from an electrolyte balance first.
