Mobile games that advertise on other mobile games

When you’re playing a mobile game and they have a ton of ads, and those ads are always for other mobile games…. How does anyone make money here?

It seems like all the ad money is just moving in a big circle

Half of all mobile game revenue comes from less than 1% of players. Even if the ads end up netting zero dollars as you pay for ads using the revenue from other companies putting ads in your game, the increase in downloads could still be immensely profitable.

The game that is showing the ads is getting paid by the game that the ad is showing to promote the game

Its targeted advertising.

The most likely people to play your mobile game are people who are playing other (probably) similar mobile games.

This is a common advertising tactic in all types of industries, mobile games aren’t especially interesting. Going to the store to buy coke? Well maybe there’s a Pepsi sale sign right next to the bottles of coke. Watching a TV show, guess what a common advertisement is ? Yup, other TV shows! Go to the movies, sit through 7 other movie trailers.

Mobile games are not any different, they are not special.

Mobile game ads pay fractions of a penny, but that’s passive income. And that’s on top of expecting that if they’re in the right range of annoyance there might be at least someone who pays the few dollars to get rid of them. It’s not a large proportion of players, but when you have hundreds of thousands of downloads, both of these pile up.
