Mosquitos breed in non-moving water. Why is that and are there any other helpful insects that do the same?

Just wondering if it would literally make the difference in disease transmission or in the ecosystems to look for the source of the problem! Thanks!

Insect larvae aren’t exactly powerful swimmers so they can’t swim and feed successfully in flowing water, they’ll just get bashed around.

Mosquitoes are the most infamous of the aquatic breeders but many species follow the same process. Dragonfly larvae are vicious predators in small ponds, taking down huge numbers of mosquito larvae, tadpoles, and any small fish they can snag.
