Your body sends a signal to your brain to chew, so your primal action is to bite down, in certain conditions, a suction can be created in the mouth by swallowing a part of the masticated food but not all of it and this suction brings the lining of the cheek inwards, it happens more often in foods what contain a lot of liquids or that makes you salivate a lot since we swallow the juices first creating this pressure in the mouth or the food being less dense as we chew it.

There can be other reasons though such as inner lining of the cheeks being swollen and etc.

Your mind doesn’t miscalculate the force, you’re consciously expecting to chew food, so you apply as much force as you need for the food. Sometimes the tongue gets in the way, or our cheeks get sucked in as we chew. We can’t focus on every single bite, so there are errors that will happen through inattention.
